How soon can I get an appointment?

Usually we will be able to make an appointment for you within 2 to 3 weeks. However, if the matter requires urgent advice, do let us know.

How do I choose a Financial Planner?

It’s important to ensure that your Financial Planner has experience dealing with clients in your situation, as well as the requisite qualifications, technical skills and investment knowledge to develop an appropriate plan to  assist you in achieving your financial goals.

You will want to make sure that they are in a position to provide impartial advice that is in your best interest. You should research whether there are any conflicts of interests such as ownership links, product commission arrangements or a percentage-based charging structure.

The Australian government’s MoneySmart website has a helpful list of questions to ask a prospective adviser.

Is the first appointment free?

We charge a fee of $350 for your initial consultation. This pays for our time.

While some firms offer a “free initial consultation”, this means that they will need to ‘sign you up’ or sell you some form of financial product to make a living. We believe this may negatively impact their ability to act in your best interest.

What are the fees and how do I pay?

Should you decide to continue with us after the initial consultation, we will provide you with a quote for a flat fee for our services depending on your personal situation. Our Financial Services Guide, available upon request, provides more information about the typical range of fees charged.

We have a range of different payment options. Where appropriate and available, you may be able to request our fees to be deducted from your superannuation or investment accounts. We do not accept payment by credit card.

Who does Bruining Partners work for?

No one. Bruining Partners is a privately owned Western Australian company which has its own Financial Services License. There are no ownership links to any fund manager or other organisations.

Can you complete my tax return or do my will for me?

No, but we may be able to refer you to an accountant or solicitor if needed. Importantly we do not accept any payment or incentives for these referrals.

Can you recommend a high-performing investment that is sure to pay a high return?

No. High returns can only be achieved by taking high risk. Our objective is to provide greater certainty in planning for your future, and a high-risk investment strategy goes against that philosophy.

Of course, our personalised portfolio management approach seeks to improve your long-term-average returns, given your risk tolerance – however, we will not be making any promises about investments that are sure to do better than others.
