Our founding partner, Nick Bruining, has been a Financial Planner in Western Australia for over 30 years. In 1992, Nick first set up his own licensed Financial Planning practice, N.C Bruining & Associates. Through years of excellence in his professional field, Nick’s reputation as a trusted and reliable expert led him to become a regular contributor to The West Australian newspaper and other media outlets. Nick is well known as one of the ‘Money Men’ on ABC radio’s very popular and long running segment.

As an independent, privately owned and licensed firm, our priority has always been to give clients honest advice, without any pressure or influence from a financial institution. For over three decades, this principle has guided us in building a team of qualified and experienced financial planners.

Based in West Leederville, the company now trades as Bruining Partners, reflecting the contribution from Nick’s partners in building and managing the firm.

Nick retired from the business in 2021 and the firm is now managed by David McGregor who worked by Nick’s side for over 15 years and Quyen Truong, the General Manager and Director.

David has been advising clients at Bruining Partners since 2008. David became a Partner and Director of the firm in July 2017.

Prior to joining Bruining Partners, David worked for the Centrelink Financial Information Service and has extensive knowledge of all issues relating to Retirement Planning and Social Security.

David believes that his role is to listen to his clients and identify what matters most to them before creating simple, effective strategies to help them best achieve their objectives.

David is married to his patient wife Shona and has two beautiful children. In his spare time, he enjoys teaching bad habits to the next generation of junior cricketers and overindulging at family dinners. He sometimes enjoys walking the family dog, Wilbur.

Quyen joined Bruining Partners in 2021 after nearly 20 years working at the banks (CBA, BankWest & ANZ) and superannuation funds (Colonial First State, ING, WA Super) in financial services.

She has worked in senior Executive management roles running financial planning teams and coaching financial planning businesses in Perth, Melbourne and London.

Quyen joined Bruining Partners because she is passionate about making independent financial advice accessible and helping clients achieve a comfortable retirement. She became a Director of the business in 2022.
